I always dreamed of you
and our house in the country.
Before I met you, I thought
about warm nights, tangled
in your arms. About sitting
on the front porch while
cicadas sing in the pear
and walnut trees. Like
us, this house has good
bones.

Hannah Clare Jellen was born among the floodwaters in Southern Illinois. She is a neurodivergent dreamer living in central Ohio with her beloved partner and pets. When not writing poetry, she is a librarian and musician. Her poetry explores themes of love, death, and the magic of the natural world.
